Alzheimer Scotland’s "Yes we can – together" project

In 2009 Ann was approached by Alzheimer's Scotland and was asked to consider the position of 'Quilter in Residence' at the Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary, which she accepted.

The project is ongoing and Ann is enjoying working with the people with Alzheimer's and dementia to produce wallhangings for the hospital's palliative care unit.

Her exhibition quilt is currently hanging in the front hall of the main Dumfries hospital.

Alzheimers Piece by Piece QuiltThe quilt shows Ann's interpretation of the progress of dementia.

The first 9 patch block has one black square, the second 2 and so on until all the 9 patches are black. There is a red beaded heart and five forget me nots in the final square to signify love and rememberance which continues throughout the illness.

Many of Ann's friends are involved with her in the Clarencefield Craft Group, the Mouswald Crafters, Solway Quilters and many other crafts groups in their area and beyond.

She is also becoming well known speakers with her 'show and tell' of the beautiful pieces already made.
