Myndin Quilt

‘Myndin Quilts’ are  quilts made especially for people with dementia.  The word ‘myndin’ is an old Shetland word and means caring, looking after and remembering.

For example: ‘I mynd her fine’ – I remember her well, and ‘a’ll mynd da bairns fur de’ – I will look after the children for you.

Linus QuiltAnn has for many years made Linus Quilts for children.   During her ongoing work with people with Alzheimers she has started making quilts for them.   The difference in the two types of quilts is that with Myndin Quilts you can make them out of any fabric, sew on buttons and beads and put smelly stuff in them (lavender is a favourite).

Our friends with dementia love to feel different fabrics in their quilts – you can put various different fabrics in them.   The Myndin Project is currently being trialled in Dumfries and Galloway – watch this space for instructions.
